IFR Procedures

All instrumental arrival and departure procedures can only be performed by operators authorized by the aerodrome operator and by Italian state flight operators authorized by the competent administrations of the state. To obtain an authorization, it is necessary to register on the specific online platform at the following web address: ifr-qualification.bolzanoairport.it.

Authorization is mandatory for the pilot in command of the aircraft and applies to all types of operations (CAT, NCC, NCO), and all types of aircraft. To register on the platform, the pilot-in-command must accumulate a minimum flight experience on the same aircraft or on an aircraft in the same or higher approach category. The minimum experience requirements are as follows:

• 100 hours of flight time and 10 sectors in the previous consecutive 120 days, or
• 150 hours of flight time and 20 sectors (without time limits).

The e-learning platform includes a training course through the document "Pilot's familiarization Briefing" and an online exam (Self-Checking). The platform offers the pilot 30 questions out of a total of over 150. The exam is passed with at least 80% correct answers. The aerodrome operator's authorization is granted through the issuance of a certificate, which is valid for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. Each certificate is linked to the pilot and a specific category of aircraft; for each additional category of aircraft, obtaining an additional certificate is essential.

When operating at Bolzano airport it is mandatory for the aircraft operator to carry a copy of the certificate in paper or digital form and exhibit it at the request of the competent authority.

The renewal of the certificate can be carried out by performing at least one take-off, approach, and landing at Bolzano airport, using the aircraft indicated on the certificate, at least once during the certificate's validity period. This renewal process takes place with a self-declaration confirming compliance with the specified requirements.

If the pilot does not meet the renewal requirements, as described in the preceding paragraph, it will be necessary to apply for a new authorization by successfully completing the test again.

This authorization does not relieve the operator/pilot to obtain an approval or authorization from the competent national aviation authority of the state of the operator/pilot if so required.

CAT and NCC aircraft operators have the option to qualify through their own training structure. In this case, it is still recommended to review the documentation published on the website.

VFR Flight Procedures

For VFR, there is no requirement for authorization by the aerodrome operator.

Pilot self-briefing – NOTAM

Pilots can choose from two "Pilot self-briefing" desks with internet access, printer, fax and phone (registration required). One is located in the terminal building on the first floor and the other is located airside in a small building next to the Main Apron.

Pilots can also access a webcam to assess weather conditions: one camera points westwards and the other southwards, directed towards primary arrival and departure routes.

Important information for travelers – Customs regulation

All travelers entering or leaving EU territory with an amount in cash equal to or greater than €10,000.00 must declare it to customs in accordance with (EC) Regulation No. 1889/2005, in force since 15 June 2007. For more information please see the following link.

Health rules

The pilots of flights coming from non-EU countries or from countries subject to health measures, with reference to ENAC circular EAL-10 and in accordance with the International Health Regulations, are required by law to present upon arrival:

• The passenger list
• The aircraft general declaration (example PDF)

The airport has an obligation to store this documentation for any inspections by the health authorities (USMAF).
